GREETINGS COC Lake McHenry Chapter Members and Guests. Welcome to April – the month of the focusing on health and wellness.

Please join us for our April meeting. We encourage you to bring a guest to learn more about Continuity of Care, network and tour our host site location. Our host location is Brookdale Senion Living at Hawthorn Lakes, and our keynote speaker is Dr. Charla Waxman. The topic of conversation is Ways to cope with loneliness – the four-letter word (HARD).

Meet Dr. Charla Waxman, Director at Lake Behavior Hospital.

Dr. Charla Waxman is the Community Liaison at Lake Behavioral Hospital. She has served in many roles in the mental health field over the years, including overseeing several clinical programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings as a program director and an administrator. Charla is passionate about developing relationships, strategizing and problem solving, and ultimately working to meet the needs of patients and clients. Charla also enjoys presenting and training on a variety of mental health topics and has trained nationally and internationally on topics related to aggression and youth counter cultures. Charla is a published author in the fields of mental health, gangs and adolescent behavior. She has been awarded locally and nationally for her work with gang-involved and difficult to reach youth. Her work has been featured in the Charthouse book, School of FISH!, as well as on radio and television.

PRESENTATION HIGHLIGHTS: Loneliness is a four-letter word: HARD. This tough emotion can lead to hopelessness, sadness, depression, worthlessness, and even helplessness. With the recent death of her husband of 40 years, hear a first-hand perspective of what it can mean to feel lonely and how to climb back up through the toughest parts of life. Loneliness doesn’t have to be forever and can be a steppingstone toward better times. If you want to learn more, come to listen and get a good dose of hope!
